Plastic mulches reduce adult and larval populations of Drosophila suzukii in fall-bearing raspberry

چکیده

Abstract The invasive spotted-wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii, is a major pest of fruit crops worldwide. Management D. suzukii relies heavily on chemical control in both organic and conventional systems, there need to develop more sustainable management practices. We evaluated the efficacy three colors plastic mulches at reducing populations fall-bearing raspberry assessed mulches’ impacts canopy microclimate factors relevant . Black, white, metallic reduced adult by 42–51% larval 52–72% compared grower standard. did not change temperature or relative humidity, but increased light intensity black mulch. Radiance visible spectrum (401–680 nm) was higher for white mulch plots, plots differ from control. In UV (380–400 nm), all had radiance than plots. Future studies will determine whether changes are associated with observed reduction populations. Plastic promising cultural practice managing since they can reduce could be incorporated into an integrated program systems.

Efficacy of biopesticides on spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii Matsumura in fall red raspberries

Funding information National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Grant/Award Number: 2015-3438323710; USDA-NIFA: IR-4 Minor Pest Crop Management Program, Grant/Award Number: 2015-34383-23710 Abstract Drosophila suzukii Matsumura is a significant pest of softskinned fruit. Larvae of D. suzukii develop within the fruit making it unmarketable as fresh berries and increasing the risk of rejection by...

Initially greeted with deep skepticism, if not outright disbelief, this assemblage — named Afrotheria — and its shared evolutionary history is now widely accepted, and an overwhelming amount of genomic data as well as numerous other lines of supportive evidence have since been adduced. Drosophila adult and larval pheromones modulate larval food choice.

Insects use chemosensory cues to feed and mate. In Drosophila, the effect of pheromones has been extensively investigated in adults, but rarely in larvae. The colonization of natural food sources by Drosophila buzzatii and Drosophila simulans species may depend on species-specific chemical cues left in the food by larvae and adults. We identified such chemicals in both species and measured thei...

Trapping of Drosophila suzukii

The spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii) is a newly introduced pest of soft fruits, stone fruits and grapes in Europe. Various trap types are used for monitoring and mass trapping of this pest. In Switzerland, “Gasser-Becherfalle” with a white lid and a liquid wine-vinegar based attractant is the most widely used trap type for both purposes. In order to improve efficiency of monitoring ...
